Jon Zazula (known in the music industry as Jonny Z) and wife Marsha started the legendary Rock ‘n Roll Heaven record shop in December, 1981, building the store into one of the nation’s most influential record stores which led to a career as a central figure of the East Coast heavy metal music scene, promoting concerts in the Tri-State area. The Zazula’s were an essential factor in launching the career of iconic heavy metal band Metallica as Zazula offered the band their first opportunity to play in the New York area and organized their first tours. In the time that followed, the Zazula’s not only managed the band’s affairs but signed the band to the their new record label – Megaforce Records – after hearing their demo tape “No Life ‘Til Leather.” After finding success with Metallica, Megaforce signed and developed relationships with many other bands and artists, including Anthrax, Ministry, Ace Frehley, Kings X, Overkill and Testament.
The Zazula’s have always been Tim Burton fans and the movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas” knocked them off their feet. They quickly fell in love with the characters of Sally and Jack Skellington and embraced the phenomena as an entirely new way of celebrating Christmas. After collecting all sorts of Nightmare treasures around the world Jon and Marsha are excited to now make their collection available to the collecting community through Hake’s in this and upcoming auctions.
