Caught Between The Truth and a Lie includes 24 total tracks, with the title song ‘The Truth…The Lie’ being featured on both the acoustic side as a bluegrass tune, and on the electric side as a fusion instrumental. The album, as a whole, ranges from dark ballads, adventurous fusion, barn-burning bluegrass, and thoughtfully crafted songs. Some surprises occur along the way, such as a cover of Led Zeppelin’s, ‘Fool in the Rain,’ arranged as an all-acoustic instrumental with a finger style arrangement of the iconic keyboard melody, and a mandolin carrying the duties of Robert Plant’s vocal line.
The record isn’t solely an instrumental record, though, as the acoustic side features songs with vocals sung by some fantastic guest talents. Capped off with earthy acoustic blues and big rock instrumentals, this album is meant to take the listener on a musical expedition of how one musician can live in two opposing and completely separate musical worlds at once, caught between the truth of honest acoustic music and the lie of soaring electric guitars through monstrous layers of production.
Caught Between The Truth and a Lie was produced by Wood and Mike Dearing at HIFI Studios in Knoxville, TN.
ANDY WOOD is recognized as part of the forefront of this generation’s top influential guitarists. Although now his music covers a broad range of fusion, rock, metal, and acoustic styles, Wood spent most of his childhood specifically playing and competing in bluegrass festivals. At the young age of sixteen, Wood finished second in the World Championship Mandolin Contest in Winfield, Kansas. All of this was accomplished before Andy discovered the world of electric guitar at the age of eighteen. At 22 years of age, Wood won Guitarmagedon, a contest sponsored by Guitar Center, amongst 3,400 other contestants.
After a stint with his rock group Down From Up, who have toured with Sevendust, Drowning Pool and 10 Years, ANDY WOOD released his first solo album A Disconcerting Amalgam. Currently, Wood is not only keeping busy with his own music, but in the recording studio as a session musician, at clinics around the country teaching hosts of up and coming guitarists, and of course, on the road with Scott Stapp and a variety of other artists.
