Recognized for Representing Artists Green Day, The Offspring, Primus, Papa Roach and More
Elliot Cahn and Jeff Saltzman – the Bay Area duo responsible for managing and lawyering for a slew of successful bands including Green Day, The Offspring, Primus, Testament, Papa Roach, Rancid, Mudhoney and Filter, are running a joint venture record label with the Universal Music Group, and music supervising films – have reformed after 18 years apart.
In the interim, Saltzman has been producing records, including The Killers‘ multi-platinum Hot Fuss, as well as albums for Blondie, Dept. of Eagles, the Sounds and Fischerspooner, and worked on tracks with Morissey and The Black Keys. Cahn, who was also a founding member of Sha Na Na and played at the 1969 Woodstock Festival, has continued on with his law and management practice, expanding into the tech and corporate worlds and participating as co-counsel in class action lawsuits related to digital royalty rates against The Universal and Warner Music Groups.
The newly reformed Cahn & Saltzman will continue to represent musicians, music business and music tech entities. They are also open to managing one or two really talented artists, and Saltzman will continue to produce records, though at a more leisurely pace than the one he has been running at recently. Their offices will be in San Rafael and in Oakland, where Saltzman’s recording studio is located.
In addition, Jeff and Elliot, together with fellow attorneys David Given and Nick Carlin, have started a company called CRB which will be reclaiming copyrights to songs and master recordings for the songwriters and recording artists who created them. This is a unique and much needed service for recording artists spanning generations.
Cahn states, “I am really excited to be working with Jeff again. I found him to be a really skilled lawyer and manager, as well as a creative businessman when we worked together before, and he brought a set of skills that were really complimentary to mine. The fact that he is now an equally skilled record producer can only add to what we have to offer clients. And I love the idea of our careers coming full circle, so that we can work together again.”
Saltzman is also thrilled to be back, “Elliot and I had a lot of fun lawyering and managing. It’s great to get back into it. After years in dark studios it’ll be nice to see the world during the day.”
