New Jersey-based progressive metal quartet ETHERIUS recently announced the release of their stunning new instrumental progressive metal EP, entitled Thread of Life, out August 24, 2018. ETHERIUS has revealed a brand new guitar playthrough video for their dueling shred-fest of an anthem, the title track “Thread of Life”, via Guitar World. The video was filmed at Inspiration Point along the Henry Hudson Parkway in Manhattan (New York) by Laura Desantis Olsson of LDO Photography and ETHERIUS bassist Chris Targia. Guitarist Jay Tarantino tells Guitar World: “‘Thread of Life’ is a song that’s actually been around for quite a while. At the time there was no theme to the album. I wanted something fast and melodic, but with a simple, catchy hook. The intro used to be just clean guitars, but once we added the fretless bass and piano, it really brought the whole section to life. The bridge section from 2:10-2:56 is one of my favorite moments on the entire EP.”
 
Tarantino continues, “For this song, I used my white Kiesel Aries 7 string for all guitar tracks. I used an Axe Fx for the lead tones and rhythm guitars were re-amped with a combination of a Mesa Dual Rectifier and a Peavey 5150. For his solo in the second half of the bridge, John used his Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci model and the Axe Fx for his tone.”

ETHERIUS was formed by guitarist Jay Tarantino in 2017. After gaining experience as a touring rhythm guitarist for guitar virtuoso Angel Vivaldi, Tarantino decided to branch out on his own with the goal of making music unlike the djent/electronic stylings of the current instrumental guitar scene. The result is ETHERIUS – a fresh new take on progressive metal/neoclassical shred incorporating classic thrash elements. In addition to Tarantino, ETHERIUS features drummer/producer Zaki Ali, bassist Chris Targia, and second guitarist John Kiernan.
 
The concept of Thread of Life and the album’s artwork were inspired by ancient Greek mythology, specifically TheMoirai (moy-ray), or “three fates”. Thread of Life was produced and engineered by Jay Tarantino and Zaki Ali with Angel Vivaldi acting as co-producer, was recorded at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey (owned by Dillinger Escape Planguitarist Kevin Antreassin), and was mixed/mastered by Mutiny Within vocalist Chris Clancy at Audioworks Productions. Additional tracking was completed with Angel Vivaldi at his home studio.
 
With one listen to Thread of Life it’s clear that combined, the four extremely talented musicians of ETHERIUS produce a clean, awe-inspiring sound merging powerful progressive elements that will appeal to not only the most discerning and critical metal fans, but to the heavy music-loving masses as well.
