“…an absolutely thrilling debut album… “Ancient Geometry” captures various moods and a dynamic range of instrumentals that keep things fresh from track-to-track… this record is packed with hooks and is catchier than it has any right to be… it’s too early to begin speculation for our Album of the Year proceedings, but Vexes makes a solid case for longevity with “Ancient Geometry”.”
– Heavy Blog is Heavy
“Whereas ALOL pummeled with groove and brute force, Vexes take a more subtle approach, exploring the more nuanced side of groove with post-metal atmospherics and an alt-metal sense of melody.”
– MetalSucks
“…sure as hell catchy… the underlying heaviness really takes things to another level.”
– Metal Injection
“Fans of A Life Once Lost and Fury of Five already know that those bands are masters of groove-laden heavy music, and clearly they also know how to reinvent that element of their sound… “Ancient Geometry” follows in the footsteps of bands like Isis, Deftones, Thrice, Pelican and Cave In but finds its own sound along the way.”
– Decibel
“Fans of Deftones, the Ocean, and the Contortionist won’t want to miss out on this one…”
– Revolver
“This is a sublime serving of post-metal… new, energizing and exciting.”

New Jersey-based VEXES – featuring frontman Charlie Berezansky (ex-Downstage andVessl), guitarist John Klagholz (ex-Fury of Five and Vessl), drummer Justin Graves (ex-A Life Once Lost), and bassist Bobby Carpenter (ex-A Life Once Lost) – came together after Klagholz and Berezansky’s previous band, Vessl, called it quits. The two were interested in starting a heavier project to filter some different ideas into. After finally completing their demos, they sent them to a few respected musician contacts of theirs, and within a few weeks, heard back from drummer Justin Graves. Graves was impressed with the tracks and hinted at wanting to join the band. Soon after, they recruited Bobby Carpenter to play bass.
Ancient Geometry was engineered and mixed by frontman Charlie Berezansky at Skywire Sound Studios in West Creek, NJ, and mastered by Mike Kalajian (The Dear Hunter, Saosin, Emmure) at Rogue Planet Mastering. Combining gripping alt-metal atmosphere and experimental post-rock inspiration with a healthy dose of post-hardcore undertones, VEXESbreathe new life into this genre set to deliver something fresh and instantly absorbing.
