Listen to “Degrade” Now via V13

Opening with darkly delicate piano and electronics before into transitioning into a heavy, guitar-driven track, the second single from atmospheric-prog rock act ITAYIL, “Degrade,” is a musical expression of one’s descent into madness caused by isolation.
“I wrote the lyrics for this song over a year ago, but now I think they carry a lot more weight given the times that we’re currently living in,” says David Chunn, the Canadian musician and the heart ofITAYIL. “If we go without human contact for too long, it’s easy to get lost in ourselves, especially since it seems like we’re living the same day again and again.”
Trained in piano and guitar, Chunn is a self-taught vocalist who cites Alcest, Tesseract and Tame Impala as influences.
Translating to “in between,” ITAYIL is a word that resonates with Chunn on a personal level, both in terms of lifestyle and musical influences. A scientist by day and musician by night, Chunn blends sounds from various genres to create melodies that capture the meaning of ITAYIL.
Chunn previously served as vocalist for Calgary-based band Vallite and has appeared as a guest on tracks by Every Hour Kills, Depths of Titan and Gaia.
ITAYIL’s debut single, “Bloom” – a song reflecting on the finite nature of life – was released last month. In a swirl of ethereal soundscapes, with “Bloom” Chunn creates an immersive experience that ventures beyond sound and into the mind. “Degrade” and “Bloom” are both available via ITAYIL’sBandcamp and major digital music providers.
