KEVIN J. CUSTER has been a major force in the music industry for over seven years, having directed and/or edited over 200 music videos. He recently edited the VH1/Nelson George feature length doc “Finding The Funk”, and directed and edited several concerts and dozens of commercial, promotional and syndicated segments for broadcast.
Custer is currently available for music video, concert, commercial, promotional and syndicated directorial and editorial opportunities.
“I’m always on board to shoot music videos, always. It’s a format that I grew up with and that I really do well with,” states Custer. “But I’m loving the longer form pieces – they give me and the artist more room to really get into the soul of the music, the performance, the fan interaction and that deeper and more visceral place that really impacts people.”
As a result, Custer is applying his unique directing and editing skills to concert shoots and music-based documentaries.
Custer adds, “A well shot, recorded, mixed and edited live performance is a great promotional and marketing tool for a label that wants to showcase their artist in a high-impact way – in other words, getting them to that “next level.” Whether the show is going to Palladia, a festival booking agent, or to an exclusive audience – capturing and showing what an artist is capable of is invaluable. Not to mention just a rad thing for an artist to have in their catalog.”
With regard to documentaries and story-based projects, Custer says, “Who can deny the impact of “The Song Remains The Same”, “The Decline of Western Civilization”, or “Sound City”? It’s all about the story, the journey – the unique struggles and successes that artists encounter – both professionally and personally. Let’s peel back the layers, find the stories, and then tell them in a creative way.”
