A letter from the parents of Landon:
Landon Andrew Nikolovski was born on September 18, 2013 at 9:53 am. After nearly a perfect pregnancy, during the labor the umbilical cord got wrapped around his neck and he was deprived of oxygen for several minutes. While in labor, one of the nurses noticed something wrong with the fetal monitor strips and that’s when the doctors came in to grab Landon’s mother Erika and do an emergency c- section.
By the time Landon’s father Andrew came out of the bathroom to change into the scrubs they gave him, Erika was gone. Several hours went by and Andrew asked all the nurses in labor and delivery what was going on and wasn’t getting any answers. Finally, one of the nurses grabbed Andrew and took him into the recovery room where he got to see Erika, and they both sat there completely clueless up until the neonatologist came to give them the worst news of their lives.
Their beautiful baby boy was deprived of oxygen and diagnosed with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (traumatic brain injury at birth). The neonatologist walked Andrew across to the next hospital, and not only was that the first time he got to see his beautiful son, he was also given the next bad news: Landon had a seizure. Although there aren’t any answers right now, we are extremely thankful that Landon hasn’t had any other seizures and after six weeks in the NICU, he has been improving every day.

Unfortunately, the prognosis for hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy is very limited. But just because it’s limited doesn’t mean we have to be! After doing extensive research we are ready to heal our son and take the next steps. This is the most critical time as his brain is still growing. Some of the treatments they are set to do are hyperbaric oxygen therapy and stem cell treatment overseas, both which are not covered by insurance.
Erika, Andrew and Landon appreciate any and all support from their family, friends and viewers of this post.
