“Easing in with guitar and sax, the song is slightly bent and a bit disturbing. This is not your mother’s “Summertime,” that’s for sure!” – Acoustic Nation
French post-rock/metal minstrels KLONE are releasing their evocative new album, Here Comes The Sun, on April 27th via Klonosphere/Pelagic Records. If you are a fan of Steven Wilson, Anathema or even Opeth, KLONE is a band you should be paying attention to!
The six talented members of KLONE combine their influences into one cohesive and satisfying progressive stew with mature, otherworldly rock overtones. Today, fans can witness the art of KLONE first-hand via a track premiere of their haunting cover version of the traditional classic “Summertime”. Guitar World says it best, “I know what you’re thinking. You’ve heard this song a million times. But I can guarantee you’ve not heard this dark and intense version from French metal band, KLONE. Easing in with guitar and sax, the song is slightly bent and a bit disturbing. This is not your mother’s “Summertime,” that’s for sure!”

Guillaume Bernard, KLONE guitarist and lead co-writer states, “I have great memories of this song, all the way back to when I first performed it at school when I was 10 years old. Since then, this melody has looped in my head and I really wanted to release it with my own feeling and artistic rendering. This song is emotionally strong and timeless. I’m a big fan of the Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong cover, and also Janis Joplin’s. We attempted to perform the song with these two versions in mind, but with our own KLONE twist!”

KLONE’s Here Comes The Sun is self-produced by the band in conjunction with longtime co-producer Francis Castes and sees the band evolve from their heavy metal roots to a more ethereal post-rock sound, without losing one bit of intensity. Driven by heavy riffing as much as by delay-soaked guitar-reverie and careful vocal melodies, melancholia defines the band’s sound while leaving room for a much broader emotional spectrum.
When you take a closer look at KLONE’s discography (below), their progress appears like a logical evolution: each album is unique, and each one has served to make the follow-up less predictable. After releasing the sublime The Dreamer’s Hideaway in 2012 with more progressive outlines, the current incarnation of KLONE offers a new journey, more captivating and meditative than ever. With Here Comes the Sun, KLONE gives each melody time to unfold, leading the listener to a peculiar universe where the sun is the central theme. Here Comes The Sun gives a whole new dimension to what KLONE have offered before.
With Here Comes The Sun, the band’s songwriting has reached the next level. KLONE have opened for bands like Gojira, King’s X and Orphaned Land, and have played the main stage at Hellfest. Here Comes The Sun is the album that will see KLONE be thrust into the limelight. It’s just too good to be ignored – take a listen, and decide for yourself.
